Insurance Business Analyst


The Business Analyst works with distributed teams in an Agile environment to facilitate Insurance Product Implementation. AAIS develops products for the insurance industry. The AAIS Business Analyst works across multiple teams and disciplines to transform Ideas into Software. The Product, Legal and Actuarial teams develop the rules and rating information (loss costs and factors) as well as forms for the product. The Business Analyst works with these teams to understand the product and enter it into our Product Development Platform. From there, the Business Analyst works with the Product Implementors to make sure the product is properly built and then with the QA team to make sure the appropriate tests are developed and are a part of an integrated Quality Assurance process.

The Business Analyst works with distributed teams in an Agile environment. Our agility practices cross all teams and include technology, marketing, graphic design, product development and actuarial. Work at AAIS is tracked through user stories in a Robust Agile Project Management software tool.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work closely with product analysts, actuaries and IT to create technical assets for AAIS programs and elicit requirements for other product development efforts

  • Facilitate discussion, planning, decision making, and conflict resolution

  • Support and educate the Product Owner, especially with respect to issues of communication, understanding or scope

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • 3-5 years of experience as a Business Analyst in the Insurance Industry

  • Understanding of the Insurance Business from the IT side

  • Understanding of Underwriting, Policy Administration, Claims, Billing and Issuance systems

  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC)

  • Energetic and able to work long hours as needed around project deadlines

  • Strong knowledge of Excel a plus

  • Experience with Reference and/or Master Data Management solutions a plus

  • Experience with Business Intelligence and / or Insurance

  • A strong sense of empathy

  • Multi-faceted problem solving abilities – you’re highly analytical

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills

  • Rock star organization skills – you pay attention to the details that others might overlook

  • Comfort with new software

  • Ability to multi-task and comfort adapting to a changing and developing environment


  • Bachelors’ Degree

  • 3-5 years of experience as a Business Analyst in the insurance industry

  • Experience with Excel

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, strong presentation skills and experience explaining technical concepts to business leaders
