Insurers that write AAIS residential and farm
insurance programs in South Carolina will receive information in their
Dec. 17 bulletins they can use to comply with a new law in that state. The
law requires that, for all policies providing coverage for fire and allied
lines, the premium attributable to loss from windstorm and hail be shown
separately from that attributable to loss from other perils.
For AAIS Farmowners, Homeowners, and Mobile-Homeowners
affiliates that write in South Carolina, the Dec. 17 bulletins will
provide the percentages of basic policy premiums for wind and hail losses
for each territory in the state. For Dwelling Properties and Farm
Properties affiliates, the bulletins will provide wind-hail percentages of
"other perils" loss costs by policy form, coverage, and
territory, as applicable.
The new disclosure requirements are explained in a bulletin
from the South Carolina Department of Insurance.
Two more speakers have been added to the program for the 2005
AAIS Annual Conference, April 10-12 at the L'Auberge Resort & Spa,
Del Mar, Cal., just north of San Diego.
-
Joan Lamm-Tennant, president of General
Re Capital Consultants, will lead a session on the
potential impact of regulatory reform on competition in the
property/casualty industry. A former professor of finance at Villanova
University who currently lectures at the Wharton Executive Education
Institute, Lamm-Tennant will draw on lessons from deregulation of
other industries as she assesses the potential impact of insurance
deregulation.
-
Ron Robinson, a Los Angeles attorney who chairs
a terrorism risk subcommittee of the Defense Research Institute's
insurance law committee, will discuss the sometimes-overlooked general
liability exposures that can arise from an act of terrorism.
AAIS previously announced that the Annual Conference
will feature Steven Fink, an internationally recognized expert on crisis
management, and Paul VanderMarck, executive vice president of RMS, Inc.,
the renowned catastrophe modeling firm.
AAIS currently has a job opportunity
for a professional with appropriate experience to take charge of farm and agribusiness product
development. For this and other career
opportunities at AAIS, visit the "Career
Opportunities" section of our Web site.
Later this week, AAIS is changing the
service it uses to transmit and receive e-mail messages. AAIS e-mail
addresses will remain the same, however, and the change is expected to
have no impact on customer service.
If you do not receive a response to an
e-mail you sent, please follow up with another e-mail or call
800/564-AAIS.
All of us at AAIS extend our best
wishes to our members and friends throughout the industry for a happy
holiday season and a healthy, prosperous new year.
