AAIS is filing a revised Commercial
Properties manual in each state to implement revisions in loss costs
for buildings and contents based on actuarial analysis of rate level
indications. The manuals have proposed effective dates of July through
September 2005.
Manual rules have been revised to accommodate the
separation of factors used to recognize construction and protection in the
premium calculation process. Also, rules and rating information for
limited coverage available for fungus and related perils (e.g., mold),
previously provided in a manual supplement, has been incorporated into the
state manuals. Otherwise, no changes to class code relativities or other
rating factors are proposed.

Planning is underway for the business program of the
2005 AAIS Annual Conference, April 10-12 at the L'Auberge Resort and Spa,
Del Mar, Calif., north of San Diego.
Individuals who have ideas for business
sessions that would be helpful to senior executives can contact Joe
Harrington, AAIS director of corporate communications, at joeh@AAISonline.com,
or by calling 800/564-AAIS.
A Web seminar describing the features and benefits of
the AAIS Artisans and Businessowners Programs has been scheduled for 1
p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14. Joseph Harrington, AAIS director of corporate
communications, will lead the program, which will last approximately one
hour.

Insurers are invited to review and comment on
standardized certificates of insurance and similar documents called
"evidence of insurance" developed by the Association for
Cooperative Research and Development, commonly known by its acronym "ACORD,"
based in Pearl River, N.Y.
AAIS's Viewpoint magazine recently
reported on the latest efforts to revise and update the ACORD
certificates of property and liability insurance. If possible, carriers
are asked to review and respond to those proposed changes by Dec. 1,
although input is welcome on an ongoing basis.
For information on proposed certificate changes,
contact Joel Volker, ACORD legal counsel, at jvolker@acord.org.
Member insurers of the New Jersey Property-Liability
Insurance Guaranty Association who pay their assessments to the guaranty
fund by Dec. 1 can impose a surcharge of up to 1.75% on policyholders in
certain lines, according to a bulletin
recently issued by the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance.
Bulletin 12-2004 of the Arkansas Insurance Department
(not yet posted on the department Web site) announces that the Arkansas
Rural Risk Underwriting Association will levy a $200 assessment on
insurance companies for making volunteer fire department renewal
subscription notices. The assessment was authorized under a law enacted in
2003. The bulletin says the department anticipates no further assessments
in 2004.
