LARRIS LARSEN NAMED TO
READABILITY WORKING GROUP

The last AAIS Advisory reported that Larris Larsen, assistant vice president for compliance, was to give a report to a working group on readability of the Wisconsin insurance department.

Following that presentation, Larsen was invited to join the working group, where he can voice the preferences of AAIS and its affiliates on matters affecting their products. (Also, the Wisconsin insurance commissioner is on a committee of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners that may consider recommending changes to readability requirements.)

Anyone wishing to contact Larsen with comments or concerns about readability requirements can do so by sending an e-mail to larrisl@AAISonline.com, or by calling 800-564-AAIS, ext. 288.

AVIVA CANADA IS AAIS's
FIRST CANADIAN AFFILIATE FOR
THE INLAND MARINE GUIDE

Aviva Canada, Scarborough, Ont., is the first Canadian company to sign up to use the AAIS Inland Marine Guide.

Inland marine insurance has been written in Canada since the 19th century, but the line did not receive the intensive development there that it did under unique regulatory conditions in the U.S.

While the policy forms and rating procedures in the Guide are developed for the U.S. market, its wordings, rating considerations, and underwriting guidelines can be useful references for companies operating anywhere.

For an audio file with discussion of inland marine featuring Toronto broker Stephen Oxley and Robert Guevara, AAIS vice president of inland marine,

For information on affiliating with AAIS for use of the Inland Marine Guide, contact Rick Maka, director of marketing, at rickm@AAISonline.com or by calling 800-564-AAIS, ext. 222.

LOUISIANA CALLS FOR
PERIODIC DATA REPORTS

A directive from the Louisiana Department of Insurance reminds insurers that May 31, 2010 is the deadline for initial data reports to be filed under the state's Periodic Online Insurance Data Reporting System (POIDRS).

By May 31, all admitted and surplus lines property/casualty carriers must report quarterly data from the past 24 quarters (2004-09), plus the first quarter of 2010.

Companies must the number of policies written, cancelled, and non-renewed, and on the dollar amount of premium and insurance in force. The data must be categorized by the type of policy and type of coverage, and reported at the ZIP Code level.

After the initial reports have been submitted, all future quarterly update reports will be due within two months of the end of each calendar year.

Submissions to POIDRS require information not captured in AAIS statistical plans, so companies will have to respond on their own. The directive provides instructions for signing on to the Louisiana department's "industry access portal," which includes links to POIDRS.
