We at AAIS wish our customers
and friends in the industry a happy holiday season and a prosperous new
year.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who are
serving our country overseas, and to those experiencing hardship in
these difficult economic times. May you be safe, healthy, and happy in
2010.
Jeanne Harris, an executive research fellow at the Accenture
Institute for High Performance, will be the opening speaker at the
2010 AAIS Main Event, April 11-13 at the Sanibel Harbour Marriott
Resort & Spa, Fort Myers, Fla.
Harris is a co-author of the best-selling book Competing on
Analytics, published by the Harvard Business Press and
translated into 13 languages. The book explains how successful
enterprises are basing their strategies on data-based decisions.
Her presentation at the Main Event will offer a critical assessment
of the benefits and limitations of analytics in business operations,
and will draw, in part, upon research for her upcoming book,
Analytics at Work.
In more than 30 years at Accenture, Harris has led Accenture's
business intelligence, analytics, performance management, knowledge
management, and data warehousing consulting groups. She has
consulted for a variety of organizations throughout the world in
various industries.
Other topics and speakers for the Main Event are under consideration. For
information, contact Joseph Harrington, AAIS director of corporate
communications, at
joeh@AAISonline.com, or by calling 800-564-AAIS, ext. 217.
AAIS's new homeowners
earthquake rating plan is available for use by any homeowners insurer,
including those not affiliated with AAIS for use of its Homeowners
Program. (AAIS Homeowners affiliates will get the plan as part of their
affiliation as it is approved in individual states.)
The plan, described in a recent article in AAIS's Viewpoint
magazine, includes features not found in other standardized
earthquake rating plans. Among other things, it
provides state-specific loss cost base amounts and rating factors that
vary by zone to reflect a risk's location and type of construction, as
well as the policy form, deductible, and amount of insurance.
A generic sample earthquake manual supplement has been developed for
review by interested companies not currently using the AAIS Homeowners
Program. To inquire about reviewing a copy, contact Rick Maka, director
of marketing, at
rickm@AAISonline.com, or by calling 800-564-AAIS, ext. 222.
AAIS will soon be filing new commercial
liability endorsements to exclude coverage for illegal recording and
distribution of information.
A new "Information Distribution and Recording
Violations Exclusion" will be filed countrywide under the AAIS Artisans,
Businessowners, Commercial Liability and Commercial Umbrella programs.
The filings will have a proposed effective date of July 1, 2010.
The mandatory exclusion expands upon and supplants a
current optional exclusion entitled the "Telephone Consumer Protection
Act (TCPA) of 1991, CAN-SPAM Act of 2003, and Other Information
Distribution Violations Exclusion." In addition to
excluding coverage for losses arising from violations of the TCPA and
CAN-SPAM Act, the latest endorsement excludes coverage for violations of
provisions of the U.S. Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Fair and
Accurate Credit Transaction Act. The exclusion also extends to any
liability loss arising from the violation of a state or federal law
restricting the collection, distribution, or transmission of
information.
Other mandatory endorsements are being
filed under the AAIS Artisans and Commercial Liability programs.
These would make the
endorsed policy excess over any other insurance available to the named
insured for premises or operations, completed work, or products
liability, if the named insured is an additional insured under the other
policy. For information on affiliating with AAIS for
use of its commercial lines programs, contact Rick Maka, director of
marketing, at rickm@AAISonline.com
or by calling 800-564-AAIS, ext. 222.
Companies reporting statistical data to AAIS for
Artisans or
Businessowners policies
are to begin utilizing the revised statistical plans for those lines no
later than for policies booked on Jan. 1, 2010.
Among other things, the new statistical plans,
released in April:
-
Add new policy form fields for some endorsement
coverage options;
-
Add new class codes for professional liability
coverage options;
-
Add the lead liability reporting requirement to
New Jersey and Rhode Island (in addition to Massachusetts and
New York); and
-
Add new fields to capture additional information
essential to the rating of Artisans and Businessowners risks.
More information on the new statistical plans, along
with the plans themselves, are available to eligible affiliates as
attachments to bulletin 09-0728, dated April 3, 2009.
The contact person for the plans has changed since
the bulletin was issued. Direct questions to Janice Nieman, director of
technical product support, at
janicen@AAISonline.com or by calling 800-564-AAIS, ext. 223.
