AAIS
has initiated filing action on endorsements and rating information to
comply with a Florida law
that takes effect May 1.
The
law, enacted in the wake of the four hurricanes that struck the state last
year, requires residential property insurers to apply hurricane
deductibles on a calendar year basis, rather than on an occurrence
basis.
To
date, AAIS has filed the necessary endorsement forms for its Homeowners
and Mobile-Homeowners Programs, and is awaiting the department's position
before filing endorsements for other programs that provide
residential property coverage. Rules and rating information to accompany
the forms are also being developed.
AAIS
is undertaking its second Web-based seminar in conjunction with another
industry organization.
AAIS
is teaming up with the Inland Marine Underwriters Association
(IMUA) for a
joint Web seminar at 1 p.m. Central time, Wednesday, March 16, entitled
"Identifying and Insuring Web Site Exposures."
The focus will be on risks of first-party property
loss to hardware, software, and data, and related business income losses.
Among other things, the session will cover exposures to Web sites based at
insured locations or on off-site servers.
This seminar features two speakers:
-
William Yang, an independent Internet security
consultant who previously served as IT security policy officer
for the state of Ohio.
-
Robert Guevara, AAIS vice president for inland
marine, who will discuss policy forms and other information related to
Web sites in the AAIS Inland Marine Guide.
The program is intended for inland marine affiliates
of AAIS and members of the IMUA.
To register,
NAIC President Diane Koken, insurance commissioner of
Pennsylvania, will be the keynote speaker at the AAIS
Annual Conference. Commissioner Koken will open the conference with an
overview of regulatory issues facing the industry.
That conference is scheduled for April 10-12 at L'Auberge Del Mar Resort and Spa, Del
Mar, Cal., just north of San Diego.
March 4 is the deadline for submitting your hotel
reservation.
Other conference sessions will address:
-
Insurance Deregulation, featuring former
NAIC president Terri Vaughan and Joan Lamm-Tennant, president of
General Re Capital Consultants
-
Crisis Leadership, featuring Steven Fink,
veteran of the Three Mile Island crisis and author of a seminal book
on crisis management
-
Catastrophe Exposures, featuring Paul
VanderMarck, executive vice president of RMS, Inc.; Dr. Peter Hoppe, a

Smallwood of the Tower Group drawing on that firm's study of
property/casualty underwriting strategies

Deborah Summerlin, AAIS vice president of
insurance lines, is scheduled to speak on the AAIS Agricultural Output
Program (AgOP) at the 18th
Annual Agribusiness Conference, March 16-17, 2005.
The conference is a training
session that features classes leading toward the designation of
Agribusiness & Farm Insurance Specialist. The curriculum for the
designation includes a session on the AgOP, a broad property policy
that provides building, personal property, inland marine, crime, and
income coverage through a single form.
Debi is the principal developer of
the AgOP and all AAIS agricultural insurance programs.
Gray
Wolf Insurance Seminars has scheduled its next "AAIS Personal
Lines Underwriting Academy" for May 2-6 in Tinley Park, Ill.
(suburban Chicago).

circulation list of AAIS member companies, prospective members, and
industry organizations that serve AAIS members.
