WHEATON, Ill., Feb. 11, 2005—Insurers that write
coverage on mobile medical operations now have access to standardized
policy forms for insuring diagnostic equipment.
The American Association of Insurance Services
(AAIS) has developed a coverage form and two endorsements for providing mobile medical
equipment coverage.
The principal form provides open perils coverage for
physical damage to ultrasound and X-ray equipment, CAT and MRI
scanners, and other types of diagnostic equipment that are designed to
be moved from one location to another and identified on a schedule.
One endorsement provides additional coverages for
medical supplies, newly purchased or leased equipment, and on-board
electronics. A second endorsement provides coverage for business income losses
arising from damage to covered medical equipment, plus other specified
causes.
A schedule of coverage is also provided for
each form.
The forms are available in most states to users of
the AAIS Inland Marine Guide, a leading resource of policy
forms, rating procedures, and other information for the traditionally
nonfiled classes of inland marine insurance.
The mobile medical equipment forms, like many
others in the Guide, have been filed in 19 states that do not
exempt inland marine from filing requirements.
AAIS is a national advisory organization that
develops policy forms and manuals used by more than 600
property/casualty insurers. For information on affiliating with AAIS
for use of the Inland Marine Guide, contact Rick Maka, director
of marketing, at rickm@AAISonline.com
