WHEATON, Ill., Feb. 2, 2005—Pennsylvania
insurance commissioner Diane Koken, current president of the National
Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), will be the keynote
speaker at the 2005 Annual Conference of the American Association of
Insurance Services (AAIS).
The event is scheduled for April 10-12 at the
L'Auberge Resort and Spa, Del Mar., Cal.
Koken, who was elected NAIC president in September
2004, will update conference attendees on the status of regulatory
issues facing insurers at the state and federal level.
Following Koken's review, two industry experts
will assess the impact of proposed regulatory changes in a session
entitled "Insurance Deregulation: How will regulatory reform
affect competition?" The session features Joan Lamm-Tennant,
president of Gen Re Capital Consultants, and Therese Vaughan, a Drake
University professor and former insurance commissioner of Iowa.
Other conference sessions include:

"Crisis Leadership: Maintaining
operations, communications, and morale," featuring Steven
Fink, veteran of the Three Mile Island crisis and author of a
seminal book on crisis management;

"Predicting the Unpredictable:
Measuring and Managing Catastrophe Exposures," featuring Paul
VanderMarck, executive vice president of RMS, Inc.; Dr. Peter
Hoppe, a geo-scientist with Munich Re; and attorney Ron Robinson,
who is involved in terrorism issues;

"Strategic Underwriting: Positioning for
success," featuring Deborah Smallwood of the Tower Group
drawing on that firm's study of property/casualty underwriting
strategies; and

"Engaging Employees: The factors that
affect performance," featuring Towers Perrin consultant Jean
Chiang drawing on that firm's global survey of the factors that
make employees more productive.
AAIS is a national advisory organization that
develops policy forms and manuals used by more than 600
property/casualty insurers. The AAIS Annual Conference addresses
topics of interest to senior executives and managers, and is open to
