Lisle, Ill., March 2, 2016—Inland marine professionals can learn about the risk implications of new technologies during a breakout session at the 2016 AAIS Main Event conference, April 24-26 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
The Main Event is sponsored by the American Association of Insurance Services (AAIS), a national insurance advisory organization that that supports more than 25 insurance line programs, including leading programs in inland marine insurance.
The Main Event’s inland marine program, entitled “New Connections in Cargo and Construction,” takes place Tuesday, April 26, at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., site of the Main Event.
Attendees in the inland marine program will hear from expert speakers addressing developments in two major areas of inland marine insurance.
The “cargo connections” part of the program features Sandeep Kar, recognized worldwide as an expert in the commercial vehicle market and technology strategy in transportation, and Jean Gardner, CEO of the Central Analysis Bureau, one of the foremost experts on the operating condition of motor carriers.
Sandeep will describe the emerging role of connectivity technologies in freight hauling and logistics, and Jean will follow with a presentation on issues in cargo insurance, including the expansion of strict liability exposure for adulterated cargoes under the federal Food Safety Modernization Act.
The “construction connections” segment features R. Scott Hartley, vice president and co-founder of a firm that develop applications for the operation of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).
Scott will be followed by Mark Katz, an attorney and recognized inland marine expert who will describe the nature of claims arising from the use of unmanned construction equipment.
The Main Event’s inland marine track continues in the afternoon of April 26 with discussion of AAIS inland marine program developments, led by:
- Robert Guevara, AAIS vice president for inland marine and output programs; and
- Sheila Morris, AAIS manager of inland marine.
That will be followed by a user group session for professionals using the AAIS Underwriting Platform, AAIS’s cloud-based proprietary platform for supporting AAIS's industry-leading inland marine and output programs.
The user group session will be led by:
- Truman Esmond, AAIS vice president of customer engagement;
- Jeremy Teiber, AAIS director of program integration; and
- Marc Dutton, president and CEO of FJA-US, the firm whose "Product Machine" serves as the basis for the Underwriting Platform.
