Maryland Calls for Data on Claims From Unrest in Baltimore

May 5, 2015 AAIS Advisory notice

Admitted property/casualty insurers in Maryland are directed to provide data on claims in Baltimore in the wake of civil unrest there following the death of a man in police custody.

A bulletin from the Maryland Insurance Administration directs carriers to an online "Severe Event Data Collector" where they are to report data on claims and losses in Baltimore under homeowners, commercial, auto, flood  farmowners, and other forms of insurance, as detailed by statute.

The first installment of data is due June 10, 2015; updates are due July 10 and Aug. 10.

The bulletin notes that the data will be protected as confidential, except when aggregated in a manner that does not allow individual company information to be identified.

AAIS Advisory notices are posted periodically to announce AAIS product developments, and to provide news items that are relevant to our program users. Advisory notices are news summaries that paraphrase documents which should be consulted directly for complete, authoritative information.
